De KOB is een organisatie zonder winstoogmerk, die dezelfde rechten biedt als een priv\u00e9bedrijf met het optionele gebruik van beschikbare middelen en een snelle flexibele reactie op de verandering van bedrijfsvoorwaarden. De KOB wil de fruitteelt in de Bodenmeer regio bevorderen en op die manier helpen het regionale ontwikkelde landbouw landschap te behouden. Zijn rol bestaat op het raakvlak tussen wetenschap en de praktische toepassing, met werk gericht op basisonderzoek aan \u00e9\u00e9n kant en toegepast onderzoek en het verstrekken van praktisch advies aan de andere kant. De KOB overschrijdt grenzen en werkt samen met andere regionale onderzoeksinstellingen voor fruit die betrokken zijn bij de overdracht van onderzoeksresultaten naar fruitproductie en marketing. Minstens 7 onderzoekers en meer dan 40 ondersteunend personeel werken bij de KOB georganiseerd in verschillende werkgroepen: fruitkwaliteit en opslag, biologische fruitproductie, groeiprocessen, groei conserveringscentrum, productie fysiologie, gewasbescherming, toepassing van moleculaire genetische techniek, marketing en bedrijfsbeheer en experimentele zaken.
