Infographic: Sustainable packaging of fresh-cut fruits & vegetables in a mobile container

The infographic of the Food Circle 3 is finally out to help us visualize how the sustainable packaging of fresh-cut fruits & vegetables in a mobile container will look like.

In Food Circle 3, fruits and vegetables from local producers will be brought to the mobile unit and there, they will be analysed and conditioned with minimally processing operations (like peeling, cutting and washing) and mild treatment to enhance shelf life. Secondly, the mobile container will also allow the packaging of convenient snacks based on mixtures of fresh fruits and vegetables making use of sustainable minimally processing technologies. For this, Food Circle 3 will be using new sustainable packaging systems (primary and secondary) for the preservation and distribution of the products, like re-usable transport boxes, recyclable trays and compostable bags.

On the one hand, the mobile unit will allow the local producers to provide new products with a high added value and to create new business opportunities, and on the other hand, the packaging will be adapted to be re-used, recycled or composted.
